The Squamish Environmental Society will meet on Sunday (Jan. 12) at 8 a.m. at the Howe Sound inn and Brew Pub for the monthly bird count. The group will be in the estuary checking for wintering ducks, Canada geese, crows, seagulls and for the larger number of bald eagles in the area this year. The Squamish Volunteer Centre at the Hotspot, 38027 Cleveland Ave., is offering a six-week Family/Caregiver Support Connection group for six weeks starting on Saturday (Jan. 10). This is for families with children or adult dependants with developmental disabilities. The sessions will include discussions, guest speakers, support and stress management. Squamish's Scout Group is chipping Christmas trees Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 11 and 12) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Canadian Tire. Trees will be chipped by donation to the Scouts.
The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors at the Alano Club on Third Avenue on Wednesday (Jan. 15) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grocery distribution. Monetary donations are always welcomed and can be mailed to the food bank, P.O. Box 207, Garibaldi Highlands, V0N 1T0.
The musical stylings of Brighter Lights Thicker Glasses will be on stage at the Brackendale Art Gallery this Saturday (Jan. 11) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.
