We are writing to extend our thanks to the excellent staff at the Squamish General Hospital.
My husband Mike and I were in town last week from San Diego, Calif., visiting our aunt Beth McCloy in Squamish. I am six months pregnant and had some unexpected and very frightening complications that required a trip to emergency. We were very impressed by Dr. Bohn's careful attention and decision to send us to B.C. Women's Hospital for specialist care, and were especially comforted by the supportive, reassuring and extremely competent care of Squamish General's nurses Teena and Linda while we awaited transfer by ambulance to Vancouver.As a Canadian transplant to the U.S., I am constantly defending Canadian "socialized" health care against ill-informed American perceptions that our system is inferior to the American privatized model; it was wonderful to come home and re-encounter what I knew to be true while living here: that our Canadian health care system still places quality patient care at the heart of its endeavours. Daffodils all around!
