EDITOR,
On May 5, after abad fall on the second-to-last pitch of the GrandWall, I sustained a serious back injury, I was able to make itjust off of the Belly Good Ledge trailwith the help of my partner Tom, whosafely hauled me off ofthe last couple ofpitches and supported me untilI was no longer able to walk. Hethenimmobilized meon the ground for a spinal injury and made the call to 911.
Luckily, we were just about 200 feet to a helipad landing and it was within 45 minutes that the Search and Rescue first responder paramedic members arrived to the scene and started their first aid. I want to take this opportunity to kindly thank you all for your professionalism andsafely getting me off the Chief and down tothe Squamish Hospital. I was very impressedat how smooth the ride wentand howefficient thewhole scene was run. I am aware that you all voluntarily spend much of your weekend training for this type of scenario and it showed!
