Editor,

What are the people of Squamish going to hear next? If beavers are drowned in traps, when will the district be doing the same with an over-population of dogs and cats?

Reasonably-priced alternatives - beaver bafflers or beaver-deceivers - are well-known solutions which have existed for many years. Why take the shameful decision of killing wildlife?

Not only does this fill animal lovers with revulsion, these actions are contrary to Fisheries and Wildlife's official guidelines on beaver dams. Fishermen who don't follow regulations are heavily fined. It appears that the district's staff shows disdain for the law. Development on our wetland areas is in their habitat.

Recently, I had my own exasperating experience with the District of Squamish. A deep furrow running along the front of the Adventure Centre was neither cordoned off, nor well-lit, and led my having a very painful fall one evening.

As a senior, I appealed for help as the fall resulted in excessive pain which was proven by doctors' findings. After suffering in agony for several weeks, I was overwhelmed by the overbearing advice dished out to me.

My claim would only be considered if I dealt with the district by appointing an attorney. I felt their reaction showed a feeling of contempt for my condition. I despair at the arrogance with which decisions are made.
