In a recent article in the Vancouver Sun, Peter O'Neil wrote that "[Fisheries Minister] Shea's decision overlooks Cohen's warning about the risks of fish farms, a warning that applies to all B.C. salmon stocks even though the judge was limited to making recommendationsrelating to the Fraser sockeye."
Shea and the Harper government are getting ready to approve expansion of fish farming in our B.C. Inside Passage, ignoring Judge Bruce Cohen, Alexandra Morton, David Suzuki and others who are known for their sober, if somber, thoughts on the subject.
The Norwegian multinationals have a lot of money invested here and are hell bent on destroying our B.C. economy by wiping out our wild salmon (sockeye, coho, pink and, most threatened, chum) along with the eagles, bears, wolves, otters, seals, sea lions, orcas, forests (all of which rely on the spawning salmon) and everything else that eco-tourists spend millions to see in our beautiful province.
Isn't it enough of an embarrassment to Canadians that we are digging up vast areas of Alberta to extract dirty oil and planning to spill it in our B.C. watersheds and all over the coast of the Great Bear Rainforest? We clearly can't trust this government for sober thought or management of our interests. It is time for British Columbians to start making a very loud fuss!
