'Tis the season for Christmas craft fairs

Your cash/cheque donations to this most worthy cause can be mailed to: Community Christmas Care, P.O. Box 516, Squamish B.C., V8B 0A4. Income tax receipts will be mailed out in January. Look for specially decorated boxers in the supermarkets in Dec. when donations of non-perishable food items, toys and gifts for children ages 10 to 13 years would be much appreciated.

The annual St. John's Anglican Church Christmas Bazaar at 1930 Diamond Road is tomorrow (Nov. 21) from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There are many items to view with gift-giving in mind including attractive gift baskets, knitted and sewing items, a table for children to check out and of course an array of delicious home-baked goods, and homemade jams and jellies. And stay for a traditional ploughman's lunch. The day will end with the drawing of the raffle.

Mamquam Elementary School's Christmas Craft Fair is coming up Friday, Dec. 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tables for local vendors, crafters, artists and artisans are available for rent at $25 each on a first-come, first-to-pick basis. Rental forms are available at the school office. The fair is also looking for silent auction items.

The Christmas Craft Fair at Brennan Park Recreation Centre is planned for Saturday Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To reserve one table ($15), two tables ($25) and three tables ($40), please call Karen Tapp at 604-898-6896 by Dec. 1.

A soup and sandwich day is planned at the Squamish Seniors' Centre on Thursday (Nov. 26) from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at a cost of $7 each. Tickets can be purchased in advance. This will be followed by an Arts and Crafts sale. Anyone wishing to display their wares can book a table (by donation) by dropping by the Centre or call 604-848-6897.

The musical pantomime Sleeping Beauty hits the stage for its first performance on Thursday (Nov. 26) and that is a 2 for 1 night. Performances each night including Nov. 27, 28 and Dec. 3 to 5 begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Eagle Eye Theatre. Saturday matinees begin at 2 p.m. on Nov. 26 and Dec. 5. Billie's Bouquet and The Adventure Centre have tickets at $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.

The Adult Afternoon Book Club at the Squamish Public Library will meet on Tuesday (Nov. 24) from noon to 1 p.m. to review Richard Russo's novels - The Risk Pool, Straight Man and the 2002 Pulitzer Prize-winning Empire Falls. On Thursday (Nov. 26) at 7 p.m., the Adult Evening Book Club will read Stanley Park by Timothy Taylor.

On Tuesday (Nov. 24) the Over the Hill Hikers will meet at Pat Goode Park for a Coho trail hike to Alice Lake. Following the outing, it is Pizza Day at Gail's home (1016 Wenda Place) at 1 p.m. and it is $5 for the pizza. For more information, please call Heather at 604-892-9003.

Squamish United Church on Fourth Avenue is holding a Goods and Services Auction tomorrow (Nov. 21) at 7 p.m. Items include gift baskets, two night stay in a condo in a Summerland resort, two nights stay in a condo in Whistler, four hours of carpentry service, two Robert Bateman prints, signed Olympic T-shirts and more.

The monthly winners in the Rotary 200 Club draw for Oct. were: Lila Gaudry-Gardner ($100), Dave Hinds ($120), Vic and Myrt Hurford ($130), and Jim Mekolash ($150).

The Cedar Valley Meditation Group will be hosting Bonni Ross on Tuesday (Nov. 24) at 7:30 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Waldorf School, 38265 Westway Ave., Valleycliffe for an evening of meditation, exploration and discussion. The topic will be "Cultivating Serenity in a Crazy World - Living outside the Box." Chairs are available but if you wish to sit on the floor take along a mat or cushion. Admission is by donation. The senior boy's basketball team is holding a garage/bake sale in the Howe Sound Secondary School gymnasium tomorrow (Nov. 21) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital thanks everyone for their patronage at the annual Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 14. The raffle winners were: Robert Richie of Mount Currie ($350), Shirley Wilson of Squamish ($250) and Rena Patrick of Darcy ($125). Thanks are also extended to Save-On-Foods and Wal-Mart where raffle tickets were sold.

The Gift Shop at the Squamish Hospital is all decked out for Christmas and the Women's Auxiliary has many new items on display including kids toys and clothing and a nice variety of Christmas ornaments and gift ideas.

On Wednesday (Nov. 25) from 7 to 9 p.m. the Squamish Public Library and Bear Aware present: Bears in the berry patch. The role of fall berries in bear biology. Guest speaker is Michael Allen, Bear Researcher.

The Eagle Watch volunteer interpreters' program will have a training day for volunteers on Saturday (Nov. 28) from 9 a.m. to noon in The Adventure Centre. If you wish more information, please call Bruce at 604-898-1130.

Very soon The Polar Express will chug out of the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on a magical one-hour train ride while passengers are enjoying hot chocolate and delicious cookies. The dates are Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6 with departures at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets for children two years to 12 years is $19 and adults 0 13 years and up - is $22. RPN Shannon White and Dr. Amber Kirk are offering a free Keeping Connected Parenting Workshop Thursday (Nov. 26) as an introduction to a seven-week series on Keeping Connected Parenting. The Village Garden Centre is hosting monthly workshops by donation devoted to healing mind, body and soul.
