On May 26, 27 and 28, the B.C. Secondary Schools Golf Association had the opportunity to visit your community to conduct the 2014 “AAA” Provincial Secondary Schools Golf Championships at the Squamish Valley Golf Club.
There were 20 schools from all around B.C., competing at this year’s tournament, featuring some of the best young golfers in the country. Teams came from as far away as Williams Lake and Cranbrook, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan and from the Lower Mainland area. The golf course proved to be a good test for the players and they left with a favourable impression and I am sure they will return to your course, in the future.
The executive and members of the BCSSGA would like to thank Coach Diana Geller from the host school Howe Sound Secondary for inviting us to your beautiful area and to the Squamish Valley Golf Club. Diana invited us to Squamish when her players were in Grade 8. They finished in sixth spot at the tournament.
Everyone at the course, including General Manager Brian Avey, Head Pro Dan Trevisan, Pro Shop staff, Doug Powell and Scott Wengi were all very helpful in accommodating our requests.
The greens superintendent, Keith Strom, had the course in great shape for the event despite the very wet weekend just prior to the tournament. Chef Jamie Grant and his staff put on a tremendous banquet for the players on the Monday evening. The food and venue were excellent.
While in Squamish, the executive and teams enjoyed their stay at the Sandman Hotel and Suites. We would like to thank Julie Barreiros and the breakfast staff for making our stay very enjoyable.
In closing, on behalf of the B.C. Secondary Schools Golf Association and the B.C.G.A., I would like to thank all of those mentioned above for allowing the competitors the privilege of playing your course and making us feel very welcome. We will certainly try to come back again.
Congratulations to this year’s AAA Provincial Championship team, led by Jordon Ku, who shot 63-67 to win the individual tile, to Prince of Wales Secondary of Vancouver.
