Underpass is the answer

EDITOR,
There is only one solution to the access problem from the Kingswood project (“Petition targets Kingswood,” Chief, May 8) and that is an underpass (or overpass) south of the Highway 99 Mamquam Blind Channel (MBC) bridge.

Highway 99 initial plans called for two underpasses, one at the Mamquam River bridge and the other south of the MBC bridge. Unfortunately, only the former was built.

An underpass (or overpass) would not only eliminate the need to route the Kingswood traffic through the quite Hospital Hill neighborhood but would also provide access to Highway 99 for the development on the old sawmill site.

Council should take a long-term point of view instead of rushing to help a developer who should have come forward with a plan that does not impact on a neighborhood.
