BC has oil expertise?

When I heard [Minister of Environment] Barry Penner talking about the oil spill expertise and the integrated teams we have here in B.C. I must admit I was a little surprised.

I don't know where this expertise was hiding in 2006 when oil spilled into the Squamish Estuary, but the response was slow, the clean up was incomplete and there was very little co-operation between government departments at the time.

In fact, in spite of the government closing down the clean up efforts stating everything is fine now, oil still lingers and can be smelled and seen.

There has been no interest in following up and monitoring the site. If this is the best they can offer at a small but significant local estuary spill, then I really can't see what they can do for a massive estuary spill in Louisiana.

I'm not surprised the southern states have refused the offer of assistance
