Women's Auxiliary turns 60

The 60th anniversary celebration for the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will be held tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 28) from 2 to 4 p.m. in the cafeteria and gift shop at the hospital. The first meeting for the auxiliary was held on Sept.

The first meeting for the auxiliary was held on Sept. 17, 1952 and the first fundraiser was a garden tea that netted over $200. The original history book will be on display, as well as information pertaining to the thousands of dollars raised for the hospital over these many years. This is your chance to thank the members for their continued dedication to this great cause.

The Squamish Multi-Faith Association will soon celebrate its first anniversary. It will kick off with the second annual multi-faith dinner on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 6 p.m. at Squamish United Church on Fourth Avenue. The potluck dinner will be followed by a guest speaker and music from a variety of traditions. This event is a gift to see cultures, religions and traditions join together in a common purpose and spirit of grace and love.

The Squamish Youth Resource Centre that sponsors Gardening Recycling Organics Worms (GROW) will be at the Farmers' Market on Saturday (Sept. 29) with information on GROW. They also recycle many items not accepted at the recycle depot such as face lotion jars, nail polish bottles, hand lotion tubes, soap dispensers, shaving foam tubes and more. As part of the B.C. Rivers Day event, the Britannia Mine Museum invites everyone to the museum on Sunday (Sept. 30) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate the importance of rivers in our province. Fun activities are planned during the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum also has a photo contest exhibit running from Sept. 28 to Oct. 28. The winning photos will be on display for all to view.

The Squamish Valley Quilters' Guild is pleased to have Coreen Zerr, fibre artist, teacher and quilter present a two-hour talk on Threads (different types and how to use) on Wednesday (Oct. 3) from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sandman Hotel, 39400 Discovery Way. On Thursday (Oct. 4) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the Squamish Public Library in conjunction with the Women's Health Network will welcome Lindy Thomson, an automotive coach. Her subject will be buying a used car and she will have some great tips on how to make the proper decision with confidence. She will be happy to answer any questions you may have. The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors for grocery distribution on Wednesday (Oct. 3) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Anyone with fresh fruit or vegetables to donate is asked to take them not later than 10 a.m. Cash (cheques) donations can be mailed to Squamish Food Bank, P.O. Box 207, Garibaldi Highlands, V0N 1T0. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program will be presented at the Seniors Centre for six Tuesdays from Oct. 9 to Nov. 13 from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. each week. Pre-registration is required by calling toll free to 1-866-902-3767.

Rockin' the Roundhouse dinner and dance is planned at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre on Saturday (Oct. 6). Another bingo night is planned at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 277 on Monday (Oct. 1) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.
