'WordPlay' choir concerts set

The Sea to Sky Singers are looking forward to presenting their annual Spring Concert this weekend at St. John's Anglican Church. The theme is "WordPlay" and the members will perform numbers composed by B.C. musicians on Saturday (April 27) at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday (April 28) at 2 p.m.

Choir director Veronica McPhee assistant director Aaron Purdie, accompanist Colleen Koop and choir members hope many in the community will attend. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors (children under 5 are free), and are available at Billie's Flower House or at the door. On Tuesday, May 7, the choir will visit Hilltop House and Shannon Falls Retirement Residence.

The Squamish Literacy Committee will welcome the Vancouver Opera in Schools performance of Naomi's Road this Sunday (April 28) at the Eagle Eye Theatre. The historic opera, set during the Second World War, tells the dramatic story of nine-year-old Naomi's journey with her Japanese-Canadian family, from Vancouver to an internment camp in the B.C. Interior. The One Book One Community event is free and all are invited to the exhibition at 1:30 p.m. followed by the opera at 2 p.m.

Bake With Me! is a free event hosted by Cedar Valley Waldorf School for families interested in Waldorf education for preschool- and kindergarten-age children. Learn more about early childhood in a Waldorf environment and engage in activities like bread making. Bake With Me! takes place Saturday (April 27) from 10 a.m. to noon. On Saturday (April 27), the Refresh Market will take place at the CN Roundhouse at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. Thirty-five vendors, including many from Squamish, will make for an interesting visit. For more information, please visit www.refreshmarket.ca

Vancouver Coastal Health is sponsoring a new program entitled Celebrating Our Lives -Older Adult Group. The sessions will be held at the Seniors Centre on the first and third Thursday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Plan to attend on Thursday (May 2) and enjoy a time of learning about yourself and others, embrace change and challenge and enjoy storytelling, guest speakers, workshop series and more. The Squamish Valley Quilters are pleased to welcome new members and the perfect time will be at their monthly social sew day on Wednesday (May 1) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sandman Hotel. The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors on Wedneday (May 1) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alano Club on Third Avenue for grocery distribution. Monetary donations are always welcome and can be mailed to the food bank at Box 207, Garibaldi Highlands, V0N 1T0.

This Friday and Saturday (April 26 and 27), the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will sell raffle tickets at Nesters for the Spring Draw to take place on May 10.
