The Spirit of Squamish event planned by the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association will be held in the Eagle Eye Theatre tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 2) at 7 p.m. This is a fundraiser to raise money for the AME (Access Music Education) that support youth financially in all performing arts. The event will showcase the talented youth in our community and, admission is by donation.

What's going on in the Sea to Sky Corridor? A discussion on local food initiatives is for anyone interested in healthy, accessible food takes place at the Squamish Public Library on Tuesday (Nov. 6) from 10 a.m. until noon, and there will be updates on local food initiatives. This is your chance to share ideas, have informed discussions and contribute to a vibrant food system. Please RSVP to [email protected] or call (604) 815-6855.

The Healthy Brain Group for Older Adults will meet at the Squamish Mental Health office at 38075 Second Ave. in Tuesday (Nov. 6) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, please contact Wendy Avey at (604) 892-6400.

The Friends of the Library have a book sale at the Squamish Public Library on Saturday (Nov. 3) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday (Nov. 4) from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This group is also holding a fundraiser raffle with winners to be announced on Nov. 29. Consider purchasing a ticket or two while at the book sale.

The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (Nov. 7) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Cash or cheques donations are always welcomed and can be mailed to the Food Bank c/o P.O. Box 207, Garibaldi Highlands, V0N 1T0. Income tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will be selling tickets at the Wal Mart this weekend (Nov. 2, 3 and 4) for their Christmas raffle to be drawn on Nov. 24.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 has a meat draw at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 2), a fundraiser for the Quick Forest Grove in Brackendale.

This Friday and Saturday (Nov. 2 and 3) members of the Legion Branch #277 will be out in the community requesting support for Poppy Days. On Sunday (Nov. 4) the Air Force Cadets and Sea Cadets will be out with trays of poppies and your support will be much appreciated. On Sunday (Nov. 4) the annual church parade and Colour Party from the Legion will attend the morning service at 10 a.m. at St. John's Anglican Church.

The Squamish Culture and Heritage Festival is planned at the Quest University on Nov. 23 and 24. Also, the Squamish Historical Society has its membership meeting at the university on Thursday (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering for the festival will be welcome to attend and, there will also be a tour of the university.

The Hilltop House Support Society will meet at HTH on Thursday (Nov. 8) at 9:30 a.m. and new members are welcome to attend.

A reminder to seniors that tickets for the Christmas Banquet set for Dec. 7 are on sale today (Nov. 1) at the Seniors Centre at $17 each - cash only, please. On Dec. 7, the banquet area will be closed until 5 p.m.

The Squamish Valley Quilters will meet at the Sandman Hotel on Wednesday (Nov. 7) and newcomers will be made welcome. The social sew day is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. Take along a lunch and then join others for a dinner. If you wish more information, please call (604) 898-1431.

There is another bingo night at the Legion Branch #277 on Monday (Nov. 5) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Squamish Transit has Seniors 2 for 1 Transit Tuesdays on Nov. 13, 20 and 27. On those dates, pay your fare and your guest rides for free.

A fun evening is guaranteed at the Acoustic Jam at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (Nov. 4) from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

The Over the Hill Hikers are asked to meet at 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 6) at the Adventure Centre for a ferry trip to Gambier Island. For more information, call Heather at (604) 892-9003.

Squamish Community Drop In Clinics will be held this month. The first one will be Wednesday (Nov. 7) from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Brennan Park Recreation Centre.
