For the second week in a row, Squamish residents angry about the higher prices at the pump at stations in town protested along Highway 99. Last week, they lined up along the Sea to Sky Highway in the Garibaldi Estates, this Sunday, they were out in fewer numbers but with as much enthusiasm in front of the Petro Canada station near Cleveland Avenue. A representative from Petro Canada told The Chief that this station is an independent site. "This means that they are independently owned and operated. They purchase their own fuel and maintain their own site themselves. Corporate has no jurisdiction to dictate their prices, like most of the other sites we have. They are open to price as they see fit since their own funds have gone into the original purchases," reads the email from a Suncor representative.
