A public hearing is set for the senior’s development.

On Tuesday, council passed a motion that Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. is the date for the hearing for the Polygon, Squamish Senior Citizens Home Society development, and it will be held at The 55 Activity Centre. The public will be able to give their final feedback on the project slated for 38201 Third Ave. before it proceeds to third reading and final approval.

The Squamish Senior Citizens Home Society is proposing a new five-storey subsidized seniors complex at 38275 Third Avenue. In order to pay for the construction, the Squamish Senior Citizens Home Society is proposing to sell their existing downtown real estate to Polygon Homes.

The current residents in The Manor and The Cedars (38201 Third Ave) would be moved into the newly completed complex. After the move is complete, Polygon would build a market-priced development to replace the older properties.

The plan for Polygon's 38201 Third Avenue development needs to be voted on before either project can go forward.

At a public information session on Aug. 28, over 125 people came out to The 55 Activity Centre to see detailed plans for the proposed five-storey subsidized seniors complex.

**Please note that this story has been corrected since it was first posted. The previous version had the wrong date for the previously held public information meeting and implied that staff set the public hearing date, when it is council who determines such dates.
