Victoria's Secret closes flagship Vancouver store suddenly

The spot has been a library, a music shop, and a lingerie store. What's next?

One of Vancouver's most well-known retail spaces is going to be empty again.

Victoria's Secret is clearing out of 750 Burrard St. (also known as 969 Robson St.); workers were dismantling the store Jan. 16 and a sign on the storefront announced its closure.

When it moved into the location in 2013, it was the second-largest store in North America for the famed lingerie company. However, in the intervening years, the international brand has struggled.

While another location in the city's core is likely incoming at Pacific Centre, there are only two Victoria's Secret locations in Metro Vancouver for now: Metrotown and Guildford. There are no other stores listed in the province (not even Victoria). A location at Tsawassen Mills Mall closed recently.

The building being vacated is a high-profile location in Vancouver. Prior to being a Victoria's Secret, it was one of the largest music stores in Canada, as it was a Virgin Megastore (the only one) and then an HMV from 1996 to 2012.

It wasn't originally a store, though, as the Vancouver Public Library was the building's first tenant from 1957 to 1995, serving as its central branch.

V.I.A. reached out to Victoria's Secret for more details about the closure and will update this story when more information is available.
