Squamish athletes swim to success

The Pirates took to the podium at this year's BCSSA Provincial Championships

Squamish swimmers captured multiple medals at this year's BCSSA Provincial Championships in Kamloops, including their first individual gold since 2012.

There were over 35 Squamish Pirates swimmers who attended and over 1,200 swimmers overall," said Tamara Guerin, manager for the Pirates in an email to The Chief. "We had a very successful weekend with lots of very exciting swims."

The competition took place from Aug. 16, to Aug. 18.

Alyssa Guerin took gold in the Division 2, 50 Freestyle with a time of 33.42.

She also snagged first place in the Division 2, 100 Freestyle at 1:12.42.

Madeleine Lawton managed to take silver in the Division 2, 50 breastroke.

While Squamish swimmers shone individually, there were also big moments in the relays.

The team of Rian Noaro, Madeleine Lawton, Maple Castellanos and Alyssa Guerin took gold in the Division 2, 200 Freestyle Relay.

Lauryn Beattie was part of the bronze-winning team in the the Division 1 Regional Relay.

Auston Gray was part of the silver-winning team in the "O" Cat 1 200 Regional Relay.

Mees Haddeman took gold along with his teammates in the Division 7, 200 Regional Relay.

Alyssa Guerin and her group managed to snag silver in the Division 2, 200 Regional Relay.
