It is always nice to win and even nicer to win at home.

The Howe Sound Secondary School golf team, the Sounders, came out on top on home turf at the 2019 North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association golf finals at Squamish Valley Golf Club on May 15. Twelve association teams from across the North Shore competed in the one-day tournament.

The Sounders earned the first place AAA high school golf banner, winning with a combined score of 331, beating West Van Secondary school’s total of 335 by just four strokes.

The Squamish score came from the best four of five players Max Kleban (75), Jack Corder-Fay (83), Liam Hudson (85), Ryoma Chiyasu (88) and Jesse Kryzanowski (89).

"The Sounders had practiced hard leading up to this highly anticipated event," Kryzanowski told The Chief, while also praising the team's coaches Tina Fox, Joe Konkin, and John Hamill for their guidance during the season.

Next, the Sounders have their sights set on the upcoming provincials — the Golf AAA Provincial Championships 2019 — taking place June 3 to 5, also hosted at the Squamish Valley Golf Club. There, the top 22 AAA high school golf teams will compete to be the top in B.C.
