Cases of COVID-19 continue to trend downward in the Sea to Sky and almost a quarter of the region's kids have had their first dose of pediatric vaccine.

According to data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control, there were 20 cases of COVID-19 in the Howe Sound region from Dec. 5 to 11.

The data for the previous Sunday to Saturday is released on Wednesday each week.

Data for smaller communities like Squamish is not released.

The Howe Sound region stretches from Lions Bay up to Lillooet.

(From Dec. 5 to 11, West Vancouver had nine cases and North Van had 72.)

From January 2020 to November 2021, there were 3,466 cases in Howe Sound.

Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, our region had 40 cases.

Nov. 21 to 27, there were 74.

Schools

Squamish Waldorf School and Skyridge Montessori School are the only Sea to Sky schools listed on the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) potential exposure site.

Waldorf had potential exposures Nov. 15 to 18 and Nov. 23 to 25.

Skyridge had potential exposures from Nov. 8 to 10 and Nov. 22 to 23.

This does not mean other schools did not have potential exposures. The VCH list only includes potential exposures in schools with an "increased risk of ongoing transmission."

Schools are removed from the list four weeks after the date of the last possible exposure.

Vaccines

As of Dec. 14, 93% of eligible folks over 12 in the Howe Sound region have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 9% have received a third.

For kids five to 11, 24% had received their first dose by Dec. 14.
