John Wesley Carson, a.k.a Cougar Jack, formerly of Squamish and Grand Forks, B.C., passed away March 1, 2023, from heart and other complications, just shy of his 90th birthday.

The family is deeply saddened by his death and hopes he is now reunited with his loved ones that have gone before.

Cougar Jack was raised in the Squamish area, a member of the pioneer family of Carsons.

He moved his young family to Grand Forks in 1959.

He was well known in the Boundary area as a cougar hunter for the Government and later as a big game guide, prospector and self-educated geologist.

He was the consummate outdoorsman who loved animals and rocks.

He shared his wealth of knowledge with slide shows and courses and was further involved in the community through the Grand Forks Rod and Gun Club as well as the Wildlife Club.

Jack is survived by his wife: Yan (Anny), children: Raven, Jocelan, Joy, Edward, and Linda, grandchildren: Leora, Evan, Genoa, Jory, Landon, Garrett, Andrew, Jamie and Samantha, as well as many great-grandchildren.

We will miss him more than words can say. A private

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of your choice or Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton.

We thank the kind staff at Moog for their service on his behalf.
