Photos of a changing Squamish oceanfront

Check out the progress of the Oceanfront Squamish development and Spit removal.

Squamish's John Buchanan captured these shots on April 3 of the developing Oceanfront Squamish project and the latest removal of the Spit.

Mathews West's Oceanfront Squamish 40.5 hectares (100 acres) of waterfront property is being transformed into a community of homes, businesses, industries, and, first, the Sp'akw'us Feather Park, which is under construction.

The buildings seen closest to the shore are the Oceanfront Squamish sales centre as well as a public house/brewery.

Find out more about the development at oceanfrontsquamish.com.

Removal of the Spit, or training berm — to open up access to the Skwelwil'em Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area, to improve fish habitat — continues with the removal of an additional 550 metres of the berm. Last year, 300 metres of the berm were removed.

To find out more about the estuary and the Spit removal project, there is a Central Estuary Restoration Project Public Open House on Tuesday, April 11, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Tantalus Room of the Sea to Sky Hotel.
