Adventures, culinary experiences and gifts are just a bid away

Waldorf School's 8th annual gala auction fundraiser promises funs with adults in mind

The Cedar Valley Waldorf School's eighth annual Gala Auction at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 20) at the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG) is shaping up to be another incredible evening with backcountry snow adventures, river boarding adventures, wine tasting, and so many more items to bid on and win.

"Last year's event at the BAG was such a wonderful success that we are doing it again," said event organizer Jennifer Thompson of the school's parent initiative committee.

"I guarantee you, you'll want to mark this date on your calendar. It's an evening of music, food and a fantastic opportunity for some early Christmas shopping."

Included in the $25 ticket price is two drinks, specialty "adult crepes" by Masaki Yokouchi's Ninja Crepe, a decadent chocolate fondue with fruit donated by Nesters, and red-seal chef Jaime Grant's savoury appetizers.

Cam Salay and Shannon Saunders, formerly of The Paperboys, will be back to get everyone up and dancing again.

Thompson said this is the one event of the year they design entirely with adults in mind.

"It's not for the kids - it's for parents, friends, university students, anyone who wants to come out and let loose and have a great night out on the town."

And unlike many other fundraisers of this type, people with any budget can walk away at the end of the night with something, whether it's a big-ticket item captured at the live auction or something smaller and handcrafted from the silent component.

"I don't hesitate to say that this auction truly is unlike any other in Squamish. We have huge items that will be auctioned live, like a cat skiing trip for two with Backcountry Snow Cats, a 'carpenter-for-a-day' with Search and Rescue's Al Modin, a river boarding trip down the Thompson River, and a dinner for six prepared for you in your home by red-seal chef Jaime Grant. The items to bid on are amazing."

The list goes on with gorgeous handmade jewelry, a photography session with Rebecca Amber Photography, handmade natural toys and fabric arts, Fun Art birthday party package, YES snowboards, productivity coaching workshop, full website design package, countless body treatments and much more.

"What makes this auction really special are the many creative parents behind the school who generously donate their time and skills," said Thompson.

"We raised over $10,000 for the school last year, which is key to being able to continue to offer the quality education [the Cedar Valley Waldorf School] is becoming known for," she said.

"This year the money we raise will go toward operation costs and tuition adjustments so we can help those parents who really want to be part of the school but may not have the finances to do so."

Tickets are $25 and available at Billie's Bouquet and the school. Call 604-898-3287 or visit www.cedarvalleyschool.com for more information.
