While residents around Lizzie Creek are put on an evacuation alert as a forest fire threats to hit their doorsteps, the District of Squamish issued a fire ban.
This week (July 18) bush firefighters battled a blaze seven kilometres south east of Pemberton. The fire was estimated to be 40 hectares in size, forcing the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District to ask residents to pack their bags in case it became unsafe for them to remain in their homes.
On Thursday, July 18, the District of Squamish placed a open fire ban throughout its boundaries. The Squamish Forest District raised the fire hazard rating to extreme after a string of hot weather.
The fire ban applies to all open fires, campfires, wood-burning pits and backyard fireplaces on public and private lands. The regulation does not restrict the use of gas or propane-fuelled stoves manufactured for heating or cooking. The ban will remain in effect until further notice. The ban doesn't extend to BC Parks.
