Goodbye sinkhole.
At Tuesday's (July 23) special meeting of council, officials moved forward a plan to fix a sinkhole that appeared along the crest of the dike just north of the eagle viewing dike in Brackendale. After it was discovered in mid-April, municipal staff set about drafting a plan to plug it, the district's capital projects manager Matt Simmons said.
The fix was submitted to the provincial inspector of dikes and now district staff have the green light. Construction will take place within a six-week fisheries window starting within the next month, Simmons said.
"There was no indication outside of the sinkhole that the land had been disturbed," he said.
The $200,000 job will impact the dike north of the Watershed Grill to the Eagle Run parking lot. The money will come from a municipal reserve fund allocated for flood infrastructure upgrades.
