With the New Year, the municipality is hunting for new branding for Squamish.
District of Squamish officials are launching a 14-week Squamish Brand Enhancement and Marketing Action Plan. The initiative kicks off with a public event on Wednesday (Jan. 8) at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. The event begins at 6 p.m. with networking, followed by multi-media presentations on "The Art of Branding" and "The Step by Step Process."
The event will focus on what the scope of a brand means. Attendees will be asked for initial input, district spokesperson Christina Moore said in a statement. In addition, for three weeks an online survey will be opened up to the community.
"We want to hear from a large number of residents and business owners throughout this brand enhancement process," Squamish Mayor Rob Kirkham said.
After the Jan. 8 meeting, a series of small focus groups will be conducted on Thursday (Jan. 9). Residents are invited to sign up online to participate in the various focus groups.
From 8 to 9 a.m., discussions will focus on recreation groups, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. will hone in on business and from 11 a.m. to noon arts and culture will be highlighted.
The afternoon kicks off with a workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. on tourism and hospitality, followed by a meeting from 2:30 to 3:30 focusing on Squamish residents. To sign up for the groups visit www.Squamish.ca/brand.
"We encourage everyone to provide their input to ensure the outcome of this project represents our community in the best possible way," Kirkham said.
Last November the district announced the formation of a Brand Development Committee to help steer the project. The committee received significant interest, with more than 30 residents applying for the six available "citizen" seats, Moore stated.
