A home on Chestnut Avenue in Valleycliffe sustained significant damage in a fire that broke out just before dark on Wednesday (March 2).

No one was injured in the blaze that was first called in at 5:45 p.m., Mike Adams, deputy chief with the Squamish Fire Rescue Service, wrote in an email. About 25 firefighters, along with RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service personnel, responded, Adams wrote.

"Firefighters entered the building to find a well-established fire in the kitchen area. Fire had extended into the attic space, but the aggressive attack of the interior teams [was] able to extinguish the fire quickly," he wrote.

The home's occupants escaped after hearing the smoke alarm. The cause of the blaze is under investigation but "does not appear to be suspicious," Adams wrote.
