Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 99 at the intersection into downtown Squamish in the middle of Sunday afternoon.

All the vehicles involved were in the left turn lane towards Cleveland Avenue, though the vehicles farthest back appeared to be the most severely damaged.

Squamish RCMP, fire and ambulance were on the scene by 4 p.m. The vehicle at the front of the accident was driven away from the scene, while emergency crews attended the vehicles behind.

A grey, four-door sedan appeared to have minimal damage to its front end, though showed more damage in the rear.

A white pickup truck behind the sedan suffered more damage. Its back crushed the hood of a white, four-door sedan at the rear of the lineup. The impact deployed the airbags in the white sedan.

Ambulances took the driver of the truck and the driver and occupants of the white sedan to hospital.

There is no confirmation of the numbers involved or severity of the injuries. The Squamish Chief is currently waiting to hear back from RCMP on details as to the possible cause, as well as the status of those taken to hospital.
