Provincial officials have extended the current comment period on the environmental certification application filed by the proponents of the Garibaldi at Squamish (GAS) four-season resort.
Last year, GAS proponents submitted new information to B.C.'s Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) as part of their application for environmental approval for the resort, which would include 25 ski lifts and 22,500 bed units of housing and accommodation on a large swath of land centered on Brohm Ridge.
EAO staged an open house on Dec. 18 to present the new information surrounding the water that would be needed for the resort and to solicit public comments. Initially, the 30-day comment period was to run from Dec. 8 to Jan. 7, but on Thursday (Jan. 2), EAO officials announced that the comment period was being extended until Jan. 14.
Proponents have until June 10 to submit a supplemental application. Once the EAO reviews the document, it will go to the public for another 30-day comment period before EAO officials prepare a report to submit to the affected ministers.
