Squamish Grade 12 students are getting an early graduation present from B.C. Transit.
The Crown agency is handing out two free days of travel to close to 17,000 students in 20 communities, including Squamish. The GradPASS provides two free days of unlimited travel. Introduced in Vancouver in 1988, the pass was a part of the Counterattack program, a campaign to reduce the incidence of impaired driving.
Victoria was the next to sign on and over the past 23 years numerous communities have followed suit, including Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.
The pass is easy to use, B.C. Transit spokesperson Meribeth Burton said in a statement. Students scratch off their two chosen travel days and show their card to the bus driver. The card can only be used locally.
