Henrickson case moving forward: official

Family hoping for resolution on Squamish teen's 2009 disappearance

It's been four years since Squamish teenager Jodi Henrickson went missing, but that doesn't mean the case is cold, says a spokesperson from the investigating body.

The Squamish teenager was last seen in the early hours of June 20, 2009. At the time the then 17-year-old had attended a party on Bowen Island. Henrickson's last known contact was her ex-boyfriend Gavin Arnott, who was under a restraining order barring him from being in her company as a result of an alleged earlier assault on Henrickson.

Henrickson's disappearance is by no means dead, said Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

"It has avenues that we still need to investigate," she said.

No two homicides are the same, Pound noted, and by nature they are often lengthy. In a disappearance, police have to start with tips rather than evidence gathered from a crime scene, she said.

"Time isn't really an indication of where the homicide investigation is at," Pound said, adding that this month police arrested a suspect in the five-year-old double homicide of Lisa Dudley and Guthrie McKay. In 2008, the couple was found shot in a Mission home that housed a marijuana grow op.

For Henrickson's older brother Rob-James, his sister's disappearance is just as difficult for the family today as it was on Day 1.

"It's strange because it definitely doesn't get easier," he said.

The family is hoping for some form of resolution. For the past couple of years, news on the case has been hard to come by, Rob-James noted.

"It is frustrating to know that somebody out there has to have some kind of information," he said.

No matter how small an information tidbit may seem Rob-James encourages anyone with tips to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email [email protected].
