On Saturday (May 16) at 12:30 a.m., a staff member at the Cliffside Pub was attacked with a knife, suffering a large, deep wound to his left arm after evicting two males from the premises. The victim was treated at the scene.
Police patrols searched for two suspects who had fled on foot. At 1:04 a.m., two males were located attempting to steal a vehicle at the Westway Apartments. The two males fled on foot and were arrested after a pursuit by members.
A knife and clothing were recovered along the route of the foot pursuit. One local male, aged 18 years old, was arrested and later released by a Justice of the Peace on a charge of aggravated assault. The other male was released pending further investigation.
The suspect will appear in court on June 10.
Help solve hit and run
On Sunday (May 17) at 1:35 a.m., a 1992 GMC pick-up was travelling south on Squamish Valley Road near mile 23 when it was struck by a northbound Honda, which had lost control. The Honda contained two people and sustained substantial damage but continued on without stopping. The pick up carried four people and one passenger was treated for a shoulder injury. Police are asking anyone with information on the vehicle or its occupants to contact them at the Squamish Detachment at 604-892-6100 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
Teen disturbs police
On Sunday (May 17) at 12:25 a.m., a member en route to Fisherman's Park off Brennan Road came across a group of youths walking in the middle of Judd Road. When they were asked to move off of the road, one 16-year-old male became abusive, swearing and yelling at the member. The youth was detained for causing a disturbance and turned over to a guardian. The liquor he was in possession of was seized and disposed of.
Minor with liquor
On Friday (May 15) at 9:07 p.m., a member attended to a large group of youths congregated on Cottonwood and Judd Road. Several people dispersed without incident and one male, aged 14, was observed with an open beer. The youth was detained and issued with a violation ticket for minor in possession of liquor and a parent was called to attend and pick up the youth.
Drunk driver loses privileges
On Saturday (May 16) at 11:36 p.m., police spotted a 1988 GMC pick up travelling south on Government Road by Mamquam School without licence plates. The 44-year-old male driver was stopped at the Shannon Estates parking lot, and showed signs of impairment. He was returned to the police office for testing, and registered breath readings three times the legal limit. He will appear in court on Aug. 7 to face charges of impaired driving. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver was flagged by the Motor Vehicle Branch as a vehicle impound candidate.
COS issues numerous charges
The Conservation Officer Service conducted a proactive enforcement blitz over the long weekend at recreation sites and other locations in the Sea to Sky. Five officers spoke with more than 50 anglers, 7 hunters, and visited official and unofficial campsites throughout the corridor. Officers issued 10 charges and more than 30 warnings for offences related to angling, the Motor Vehicle Act, and Liquor Control Act.
Wildlife offences under investigation
On Friday (May 15), conservation officers received notice that a bear was making repeated access to an unlocked garbage tote at an address on Plateau Crescent in Valleycliffe. Officers are investigating.
On Sunday and Monday (May 17 and 18), the Conservation Officer Service received numerous complaints that a female bear and two cubs made repeated access to garbage at a business on Industrial Way near Highway 99. Officers are investigating.
On Tuesday (May 19), the Conservation Officer Service initiated an investigation into the deposit of large quantities of litter and food waste and the burning of prohibited materials at several locations in the Squamish Valley. Garbage was left behind by students from at least one Secondary School located in South Surrey. Numerous charges are pending.
