Shannon Falls arrests
Two men from the Lower Mainland were arrested and their 2006 Hummer H3 was seized after officers set up surveillance at the Shannon Falls parking lot on Thursday, Oct. 8, according to Squamish RCMP. Officers witnessed what appeared to be a theft in progress.
A suspect’s vehicle was stopped in West Vancouver and some property stolen from a vehicle at Shannon Falls was found, police said.
Police say they believe the suspects are responsible for numerous other thefts from vehicles in recent weeks at Shannon Falls and other local tourist attractions.
Charges of theft from vehicle and mischief are being recommended and a request for civil forfeiture of the vehicle is also being pursued, police reported.
Ford stolen from garage
A Ford Expedition was stolen along with several pairs of skis, a purse containing identification and credit cards, two cameras, power tools, karate gear and other personal items from a garage in the 1000 block of Pennylane Place on Tuesday, Oct. 6, RCMP said.
The residents heard the garage door opening at about 4 a.m. and then discovered the break-in, according to Squamish RCMP. The vehicle was recovered Tuesday. Results of a forensic examination are pending, police said.
House burns to ground
An unoccupied house at Tantalus Acres on Squamish Valley Road caught fire and burned to the ground on Tuesday, Oct. 6. There were no witnesses, and while arson is suspected, there is no suspect, according to RCMP.
The matter remains under investigation.
Theft from vehicle
A Michael Kors purse containing a Kindle notebook as well as a green ladies’ Eddie Bauer coat were stolen from a vehicle parked at Shannon Falls parking lot on Tuesday, Oct. 6, police said.
Mischief taggers
Two reports were received of “tagging,” one at Wal-Mart and one at Squamish Elementary School, on Thursday, October 8, RCMP said.
Three sides of the school were tagged with red and gold paint. The incidents remain under investigation.
Road washed out
RCMP received two reports that there was a washout on the Squamish Valley Road at roughly the 22-kilometre mark on Sunday, Oct. 11.
No one required evacuation, police said.
