Arrests made for thefts
Charges have been laid against four people from the Lower Mainland in connection with two vehicles stolen from a residence in the 41500 block of Government Road on Oct. 24, Squamish RCMP report.
The two vehicles stolen in Squamish were used, along with other stolen vehicles, in a multi-jurisdictional crime spree, which came to an end with a police takedown at Manning Park near Hope on Oct. 27, police said.
Charges include possession of stolen property, possession of break-in tools, identity theft, fraud, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
Injuries in assault
A person was hurt, although not seriously, in an assault midday on Sunday, Nov. 8 behind Shoppers Drug Mart in the 1300 block of Pemberton Avenue, according to Squamish RCMP. The assailant was no longer in the area, but the victim had visible minor injuries consistent with an assault, police said. The investigation continues.
Drunk at drive-thru
A man was arrested for impaired driving and refused a breath demand after police were called to the McDonald’s drive-thru at 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8.
The driver of a car had almost hit the building and he was slurring his words, police report. The man had not paid for his food, was incoherent and kept entering and exiting his running vehicle, according to RCMP.
Police witnessed the man urinating in the planters on the side of the building, then stumbling towards his car. Police spoke to him and observed further symptoms of impairment. Charges of impaired driving and refusal are being recommended.
Impaired driving
A man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his Jeep was impounded on Saturday, Nov. 7 after police found the blue Jeep with a man in the driver’s seat slumped over the wheel at the intersection of Queen’s Way and Industrial Way, RCMP said. The man displayed signs of impairment and failed a roadside screening test, according to police.
Post office B&E
Two doors were damaged but nothing was stolen in an overnight break and enter at a postal location on Friday, Nov. 6, police said. The front door glass was smashed to gain entry. Forensic examination was conducted and the results are pending, according to RCMP.
Mercedes recovered
A silver Mercedes 320 SUV stolen on Oct. 19 in Surrey was recovered from the 41500 block of Government Road on Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to Squamish RCMP. The SUV had been parked there for several days with the windows open, police said. The vehicle was impounded at the RCMP detachment for examination and results are pending, RCMP said.
