Boat taken
A 14-foot yellow aluminum boat worth $5,000 was stolen on Wednesday, Aug. 3, police said. The boat, which has a grey 9.9 Mariner outboard motor, was last seen at mile 11 on the Squamish River on the evening of July 10. The boat has a distinctive red stripe and a large green patch in the middle.
Works yard B&E
The Squamish Works yard on Government Road was broken into between Tuesday Aug. 2 and Thursday, Aug. 4, RCMP say. Someone cut the chain-link fence and rolled it to one side to gain access. A sea can, that was around 20 metres from the hole in the fence, had recent bolt cutter marks on the lock. A second sea can was left unlocked but nothing was removed. This file remains under investigation.
Kayak theft
A Waka Tutea kayak worth $1,700 was taken from the Executive Suites Hotel, located on Tantalus Road, on Thursday Aug. 4, police report. The rare yellow kayak, shipped to B.C. from New Zealand, has a LULU sticker on the side.
Roaming bear
A Squamish resident called the Squamish RCMP on Monday Aug. 1 to report a bear on Vista Crescent. The resident said that many people were outside near the bear and he was concerned for everyone's safety. The police spoke to the resident who updated officers that the bear went back into the forest and that he warned the people on the street. The bear was not acting aggressive in any manner and the police contacted B.C. Conservation to alert them of the sighting.
Bike stolen/returned
A man’s Green Norco Fluid LT mountain bike was stolen from his backyard on Orkney Way on July 23, according to Squamish RCMP. The bike’s lock was cut. In addition to the theft, a screen window in the house was removed, though entry was not gained. The bike was recently recovered from a break-and-enter to a residence on Pia Road and was returned to the owner.
