Break and enter

Twenty tire rims worth about $1,000 were stolen from a commercial tire company on Government Road on Aug. 20.

Police said a person of interest took nine rims to a local scrap metal location.

Officers are investigating and charges may be issued.

Drifting boat

A large sail boat was drifting in the Mamquam Blind Channel near the Squamish Yacht Club on Aug. 21.

Two people helped keep the boat in place.

The owners were contacted and able to secure the vessel.

No damage was reported.

Flipped tractor trailer

A single vehicle tractor trailer flipped onto its side on Highway 99 at Britannia Beach on Aug. 21. Police reported that the driver suffered only “very minor” injuries.

The flipped trailer completely blocked the northbound lane, not allowing any vehicles to pass around it.

With the assistance of Miller Capilano Maintenance Corp., northbound traffic was re-routed through a breach in the cement median.

This opened the Highway to both lanes of traffic at 08:30 am.

Lamborghini crashes

A green Lamborghini crashed into a side barrier on Highway 99 southbound at the top of Britannia Beach hill on Aug. 24.

Police say a witness said the driver lost control when shifting down from fourth gear to third.

The vehicle is registered to a company, and a representative from that corporation is working with officers as an investigation continues.

Alleged fraud

A person attempting to call Apple support phoned the wrong number and was told to send $800 in iTunes cards on Aug. 24.

Police say the complainant bought the cards and provided the serial number to the suspect.

Officers say iTunes gift cards can’t be tracked.

Police are reminding the public that no legitimate company accepts gift cards as payment. This matter is still under investigation.

Climbing gear stolen

Bags and suitcases containing climbing gear and two American passports were stolen from a grey Nissan Sentra parked at Cat Lake campground on Aug. 25.

Police say a small red hatchback was seen driving out of the campground at 01:00 am.

Officers are investigating.

Not quite a cougar

A pair of raccoons managed to fool campers into thinking that a mountain lion was about to have them for breakfast.

Campers staying in Porteau Cove called RCMP, fearing a cougar was outside their tent.

They reported an animal pawing at the tent and roaming around their camp site.

Alas, it was not a cougar, just two large raccoons who were helping themselves to the food in the campsite.

Police say that conservation officers hadn’t received any reports of cougars in or around Porteau Cove.

Authorities are asking campers to keep their sites clean in order to prevent uninvited animal guests from arriving.
