Man arrested for theft under $5,000

On Feb. 26, Squamish RCMP arrested a man found in a parked vehicle that did not belong to him on Plateau Drive. He was held in custody and transported to North Vancouver Court where he was released on a Recognizance of Bail for a charge of Theft Under $5,000.

Theft of coats using kid

A man used a child to help steal two coats worth $700 and $800 respectively from a local outdoor store, on Feb. 15 and 19. The suspect used the young child that was with him to hide the coats as he walked out from the store without paying. Police say if you see a theft in progress, remain in a safe place and call the RCMP.

Fraud

A woman reported someone had used her information from a 2018 fraud to open an account at a jewellery store and fraudulently spent over $5,000, resulting in a collection agency contacting the woman. Police investigation revealed bank errors may have enabled the culprit to use the previous fraudulently obtained information to open the account. According to the news release, this incident helped the RCMP realize the importance of informing our community to follow up after reporting with Trans Union, Equifax, and local banks if this type of fraud happens.
