Not impaired but...

On Jan. 1, Squamish RCMP received a report of impaired driving, with the driver swerving and hitting medians. Officers tracked down the driver, and when attempting to do a road check, the driver drove into a ditch. After an investigation, members determined the driver was not impaired; however, they had broken a number of driving laws and were driving contrary to restrictions.   Under the Motor Vehicle Act, members issued the driver tickets and impounded their car.

No means a 90-day suspension

After refusing to provide breath samples, police served a driver a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition, impounded her car, and ensured she had a means to leave the scene on Dec. 29.

The driver was pulled over after Squamish RCMP received a report of a single-car crash at Diamond Head and Mamquam roads. Mounties believed the driver was intoxicated and directed her to provide the samples.

Kudos to designated drivers

On New Year's Day, police officers conducted impaired driving checks on about 13 drivers in the downtown area during the evening. All drivers were below the legal limit for driving, and almost every passenger had been drinking. Police wish to commend people who made safe and responsible transportation arrangements over this holiday season.
