Crews cleaned up the mess on Monday

The District of Squamish says a chemical spill occurred on Third Avenue and Pemberton Avenue.

A vehicle spilled the material on Monday morning and cleanup crews were dispatched to wipe up the mess.

“The fluid didn’t reach our storm system,” wrote spokesperson Christina Moore in an email.

Friday, the District added that the public works department crew made sure that the substance — suspected to be a hydraulic leak — did not get into the municipal storm system and was quickly cleaned up.

“The marks left on the road surface will fade in time. The District has been unable to determine what type of vehicle it came from. We thank the community for reporting this to us,” a District spokesperson said in an email to The Chief.
