Get your applications in! Deadline for Sarah Burke youth winter sports scholarships is Aug.1

Applicants between the ages of 12 and 18 have until Aug. 1 to submit a five-minute video essay to the Sarah Burke Foundation. Winners will be announced by Sept. 2.

The deadline is closing in on the Sarah Burke Foundation's annual Up and Coming Scholarships, which will see two young winter sports athletes receive grants of $7,500 each.

Applicants between the ages of 12 and 18 have until Aug. 1 to submit a five-minute video essay to the Foundation. Winners will be announced by Sept. 2.

The Sarah Burke Foundation was created in honour of Canadian winter sports legend Sarah Burke, a trailblazer who broke ground for women in freeskiing competition and was responsible for the inclusion of the sport at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

She died after a training accident in Utah in 2012.

She was inducted that year into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

Burke lived in Squamish with husband Rory Bushfield, who is president of the Foundation.
