Bookkeepers say results ‘very positive’

Auditors say the District’s finances are in order following a routine yearly check-up.

“I’m going to give you the high-level overview here, which is very positive,” said Bill Cox, partner at BDO Canada, at a May 7 meeting with Squamish council.

“I would say, overall, the audit went very well. Some issues to work through, but nothing of substance or concern on our end.”

The finishing touches haven’t been completed, but the auditors said they were confident in how things will go.

“We’re far enough along, we know we’re going to be able to sign off a clean audit opinion, which is exactly what you want,” Cox said.

“Nothing to complain about on our end.”

The statement of financial position presented to council shows that the District has $93.14 million in financial assets.

In addition, the District has an extra $253.9 million in non-financial assets such as capital.

On the other hand, it’s facing $68.67 million in liabilities.
