Have you seen a police officer scooting around on a mountain bike this week?

If not, you likely soon will.

The Squamish RCMP is rolling out a Seasonal Policing Unit for the summer.

"Policing today looks very different than it used to. As an organization, we need to evolve to the changing needs and priorities of the communities that we police," said Staff Sgt. Gareth Bradley, in an RCMP press release.

"With the creation of this temporary position, we are focusing our efforts on Squamish’s policing priorities."

Officers will be seen around town using a police boat, bicycles, and ATVs.

The unit hopes to have the most significant impact downtown, the release states.

The RCMP's stated goal is to create connection, engagement and collaboration.

"We want our officers to be available and approachable for the public so that those meaningful connections can be made," Bradley added.
