A man has been arrested and charged after a suspect allegedly entered a downtown Squamish business with a weapon while demanding money from employees on Feb. 9.

A second call to the RCMP came from a restaurant close by, where an employee stated a man had allegedly entered the store with a weapon and demanded money.

Cpl. Sascha Banks says Squamish RCMP went to both businesses and police located a man matching the suspect description. He was arrested without incident.

The person in custody is a 40-year-old resident of Squamish.

Police are charging him with: one count of robbery with a weapon; one count of attempted robbery with a weapon; two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm; two counts of disguise with intent; one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

His first court appearance is in North Vancouver court at the end of February.

Police are not releasing the name of the accused.
