Local authorities and organizations are banding together to provide priority childcare to essential service workers.

Sea to Sky Child Care Resource and Referral, or CCRR, is co-ordinating referrals and placements for these workers’ preschool-aged kids. Children aged five and under fall into this category.

“Childcare spaces are being prioritized for children whose parents work in public health and health services, social services, law enforcement, first responders and emergency response sectors,” said Lisa McIntosh, CCRR co-ordinator in a news release.

“Additional spaces will then be given to families working in other crucial roles, defined as essential service workers.”

For essential workers needing care for school-aged children from kindergarten to Grade 6, the Sea to Sky School District is co-ordinating those requests and referrals.

This effort is a collaboration between Sea to Sky Child Care Resource and Referral, Sea to Sky Community Services, the District of Squamish, School District #48 and Vancouver Coastal Health.
