Attempted B&E

Squamish RCMP is asking the public to help identify two males suspected of trying to break into a business on March 22. At around 3:30 a.m., two men tried to open a locked gate in the 1100 block of Enterprise Way, but left before being able to get in the property.

Suspicious activity

A resident called police after seeing someone checking car doors on Valley Drive on March 19 around 8:30 p.m. The caller described the man as having a medium to heavy build, and as wearing a dark hoodie or jacket and dark pants. A police service dog and four police officers checked the area, but weren't able to find the man. A press release from Squamish RCMP said they don't know if this activity is related to three recent thefts from vehicles.

Thefts from vehicles

Around 4 a.m. on March 19, someone who parked their work truck in the 39000 block of Government Road reported it was broken into. The resident reported a Milwaukee bag of tools worth $4,000 was stolen. A few hours later, around 11:30 a.m., someone from the same neighbourhood called the police to report their vehicle was also entered, but nothing of value was taken. Later that day, at 5:30 p.m., Squamish RCMP received yet another call about a vehicle in the 39000 block of Cardinal Drive being broken into, and two pairs of presciption sunglasses were stolen.

Police want to remind residents to lock their vehicles, and call police if they witness anything suspicious.

COVID-19 calls and scams

Squamish RCMP have been called "a considerable number" of times regarding COVID-19 and social distancing.

"Collectively, we need to adhere to federal, provincial, and civic calls to action of social/physical distancing including staying home," the department's press release states.

The number of scams related to the virus has also increased, with Squamish RCMP noting fraudulent websites selling items that don't exist, and untraceable contact information being used to scam people out of money and personal information. Tips to prevent fraud can be found at the Canadian Anti-Fraud website.

Detachment remains closed

The Squamish RCMP detachment is still closed, with nonessential services temporarily suspended. Non-emergency complaints can be made by calling 604-892-6100. According to RCMP, police resources have not been affected by the office closure.

Anyone with information about any crime, can contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
