As I write this just after the Labour Day long weekend, you can practically hear the collective moan echoing throughout Squamish. Yup, summer is just about finished.

On the Canada Day long weekend, I drove past the parking lot for Joffre Lakes on my way to hike a much less crowded mountain.

It’s a huge victory for Indigenous leaders and pipeline opponents, but by no stretch of the imagination is the Trans Mountain expansion project over.

Squamish is one of the fastest growing communities in B.C., with a hot real estate market, a shrinking amount of land for building and an ever-increasing number of families looking to call it home. Growth like that attracts attention.

I am writing to you to express my deep sadness for the childcare situation in Squamish. Not really for myself, although, I do operate a licensed childcare business in Valleycliffe.

Squamish is a work in progress and that state of affairs comes with a growing assortment of rough-edged issues and concerns. Generally, newcomers are well received, and most will tell you how easy it is to connect with this community.
