Howe Sound dancers shine on stage

Performance season going strong for dancers from Squamish

The performance season kicked off in January for the Howe Sound Dance Academy, at the Youth American Grand Prix in Seattle.

Since then, the young dancers from Squamish have performed at four more competitions and have two more to attend.

In February, the team won several top 10 finishes and special awards at the Shine Dance Festival. Squamish’s Sophia Katramadakis, who was named the Star Performance of the day, was also invited to the Dance Charity Show Case in June.

The Festival du Ballet, Peak Burnaby, Quantum Acrobatics and Peak North Vancouver saw the dance team from Squamish earn at least five Spirit Awards and three top 10 finishes and a Judge’s Pick of the season.

The Howe Sound Dance Academy has also had 70 successful Royal Academy of Dance exam candidates, holding the dancers to an international standard. Forty dancers also were Association of International Dance Teachers modern jazz candidates, one of who earned 100 per cent, the highest mark in the province.
