The Squamish United U16 boys team is the first local male youth team to qualify for provincial championships, according to the club.

These players will be heading to the big competition in Prince George, which takes place from July 4 to 7.

Squamish United are coming off of a noteworthy season. They were one away from winning the Division 1 league championships and went on an unbeaten run in the Coastal Cup, despite missing three regular starters due to injury.

"In the league cup semi-final game, the team showed incredible spirit and determination and came to within 1 penalty shot of going to the Coastal Cup final, despite having to play without subs for almost 100 minutes against the league champions," reads a news release from the team.

"With their combination of skill, amazing team spirit and their never-say-die attitude, this team will represent Squamish very well and has as good a shot as any other team at the provincial championship title. All injured players will be fit and healthy for provincials."

In the meantime, the team is looking for donations to help offset the costs of the trip to Prince George.

Donations accepted in cash, or cheque to Soccer 2003 Boys, or e-transfer accepted by treasurer Marie-France Dubois at [email protected]. For additional information, contact Tiffany Blasak at [email protected].
