Whistler Blackcomb opening day is set for Nov. 28, but all athlete development programs have been pushed back to Dec. 7.

Whistler Blackcomb is delaying the start of its Athlete Development Programs, according to an email sent to athletes and their parents.

While the mountain's opening day is still set for Thursday, Nov. 28, the start date for Skier Development, Ultimate 8, Race Development, Freestyle Development, Jr Freeride, All Mountain Development, All Mountain Academy, and Freeride Club has been pushed back a week to Dec. 7.

Because they are starting later, the programs will also finish a week later on the weekend of April 18, according to the email.

"We have made this decision to ensure the best possible experience for all participants," wrote Omer Dagan, athlete development programs supervisor, in the email. "Looking forward to a great season ahead."

As of Saturday, Nov. 23, the Whistler Blackcomb snow report said there is a base depth of 12 cm of snow. Periods of snow are predicted in the alpine for the coming days with temperatures dipping well below freezing.
