As part of our Squamish Votes 2018 coverage, we invited each candidate to fill out an online questionnaire answering questions about policy and big issues facing Squamish in the next four years. Candidates were emailed the questionnaire and given one week to submit answers.

Spending time at the Estuary surrounded by the stunning views and incredible wildlife.

Squamish Issues

What do you think is the biggest single issue facing Squamish? (150 words limit)

Managing growth effectively while balancing what is best for the community.

In the last term, what was council's single greatest accomplishment? What was council's biggest failure? (150 character limit)

 Council's greatest accomplishment was the Intergrated Flood Management Plan. Their biggest failure was unmanaged growth.

 

Residents often complain about traffic (speeding, parking etc.) What would you do to improve traffic and parking in Squamish? (150 words limit)

We need to review our current parking and transportation plans. We must increase the cost of parking variances significantly and collect DCCs for an innovative parking facility downtown. We should also be looking at alternatives like car-sharing, better bus service, air travel and rail options.

Squamish has a housing affordability crisis. What would you do to improve affordability? (150 words limit)

We need to work with all stakeholders and leverage government, for profit and non-profit options. Staff housing is paramount to support business.

Do you support stronger regulation of AirBNB?

Yes

How would you attract new businesses and employers to Squamish? (150 words limit)

I believe Mayor & council is the face of our community. We must support economic development by identifying who and what we want to attract and pounding the pavement to bring them to Squamish

Do you have a strategy to implement regional transit? (150 word limit)

This is a topic we have been working on at the Squamish Chamber of Commerce. We need to work with orher municipalities and stakeholders in the corridor and province to create a strategy that gets the best bang for our buck while keeping in mind transit is not limited to only cars and buses.

Given limited financial resources, what do you think is the single highest priority for Brennan Park? (150 word limit)

We need to find the money to upgrade and improve Brennan Park. From a second sheet of ice to the installation of a community water park, we need to leverage our relationships with different levels of government, the private sector and non- profits to make it a reality now.
