This Squamish mom is passionate about real estate

“I guess you could say I'm a bit of a dork for real estate,” admits Ashley Davis. “When I was a teenager, I would go to open houses. For fun.”

Knowing this, it's no surprise that Davis wound up becoming a Realtor. She says that almost “everything” about her career can be traced back to one moment when she was 17 years old: “I had worked full time since I was 15 years old, saved a lot of money, and I wanted to buy my first property. Someone at the bank laughed at me because I wasn't old enough to sign a mortgage contract. When I was 19, I found a solid investment, and got my first place.” That burning desire to have her own home helped her understand from an early age which moments are pivotal in a person's life, adding, “the biggest decisions people will make in their lives will be about their career or their home. And I love being a part of that.”

Another reason Davis loves her job is because she is passionate about encouraging people to live in Squamish. She moved to the region five years ago and acknowledges that she isn't the typical transplant to the Sea to Sky area: “I don't mountain bike, I don't hike... My life here is my four-year-old daughter and my career.” She says that she chose to settle in the area because of the strength of the community she found. Being a single mother, she wanted to make sure that her daughter grew up with a town that emphasized connectivity and shared lives:

“The moms here are incredible. Anything you need, from a cup of sugar to a pick up from school, people will come together. It still has that small town feel.”

Davis is new to her current brokerage working with One Percent Realty and says that she likes the transparency the company represents. It's in the name: the realtors will only charge a one percent commission on the sale price of a home. Davis says that the industry is not regulated in terms of the commission a realtor can charge, and she wants to make sure her customers are getting the best value for their money. And the tactic seems to be working: “Business,” she says, “is skyrocketing because we offer the same service, but for a much smaller cost.” Ultimately, however, Davis feels like she is getting as much value as her customers, saying, “when people get into their new home and feel settled, and finally have a place that's theirs, it's a priceless feeling.”
