JASPER, ALTA. — The mayor of Jasper says he stands by a report commissioned by his town that criticizes Premier Danielle Smith’s government response to a wildfire that destroyed a third of the Rocky Mountain community.

VICTORIA — Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the inland regions of British Columbia's north coast, saying there is a moderate risk to public health.

Lori Daniels and a team of researchers plan to let a hand-held GPS guide them in a few weeks to more than 100 spots in the charred forest around Jasper, Alta. At each location, they'll plunge a stake into the ground and take notes.

British Columbia's wildfire service says much of the province has experienced "unsettled" weather conditions, with rain in some areas that have been hot spots for fire this season, but a drying pattern is forecast to settle in later in the week.

REGINA — Saskatchewan's government says it's bringing in crews from other provinces and countries to fight raging wildfires, as more people have been forced to flee their homes.

In turn, Danielle Smith blamed the federal government for failing in the fire response by not asking sooner for provincial help and for not clearing out dead trees that provided fuel for the flames.
